L2B Environmental Systems Inc. (L2B) was first conceived of in 1996, while founders Larry McLean and William Morrow were having dinner in a restaurant in Cookstown, Ontario. During the course of their meal, a toxic cloud of second-hand cigarette smoke drifted into their non-smoking area booth. Larry, a life-long asthmatic, immediately started to notice the impact this was having on his breathing. William, a scientist, was upset that healthy people were being exposed to vast number of dangerous toxins in seemingly “non-smoking” public places, with little consideration given to the impact it was having on their health. The two began discussing a topic that they often gravitated towards: the importance of clean indoor air.

Larry and William had become friends several months earlier while working together on a large-scale water sterilization project. Their friendship developed in part due to the fact that both had family members that were dealing with asthma. Larry’s youngest son regularly had severe asthma attacks in the middle of the night. As a result, he would spend the night sitting up in bed, struggling to breathe while hooked up to a nebulizer. Some nights he would have to be rushed to the hospital. William also had family members who suffered from asthma, who required hundreds of dollars worth of medication every month to treat their symptoms. Both of them clearly understood the emotional and financial toll asthma could take on an individual and their family.

Larry and William also understood that there were a multitude of other conditions and illnesses caused by, or made worse by, poor indoor air quality. With their combined knowledge of advanced ultraviolet technologies and their desire to help others, L2B Environmental Systems Inc. was created.

Since that time, L2B Environmental Systems Inc. has become one of North America’s most trusted indoor air purification companies. L2B specializes in the research, development and manufacturing of ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) air purification systems for residential, commercial and institutional applications.

L2B has been awarded numerous patents based on in-house R&D, which are the basis for the enabling technology in their ALL•AIR™ ultraviolet air purifiers. Their ALL•AIR™ UVGI systems have been designed based on their thorough understanding of indoor air pollution control methods and years of experience in applying UVGI technology to disinfect both air and water. L2B’s ALL•AIR™ systems have been rigorously tested and validated by third parties.

L2B played a pivotal role in the development of environmental guidelines to reduce TB transmission in homeless shelters and drop-in centres for the city of Toronto in 2007. L2B also participated in the first ever symposium on “Engineering Methods for the Control of Airborne Infections: An International Perspective” at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts. They’ve worked with hospitals, medical practices, non-profit organizations, schools, process facilities and more throughout North America.
